The first result is so lousy that your initial thought is “it’s a disaster.”

But hold on!

It can only get better.

Look again.

Vary the parameters, change something a tad.

Voila! This time it’s an improvement, perhaps perfect or maybe not, but better.

It happens with parking spaces, medical inquiries, and travel planning.

If needed try tomorrow, a delay that’s not all that bad!

Super-normal and super-abnormal numbers.

I made up part of that, but it’s not far off what we use in advanced and experimental mathematics.

Sometimes the ability to add and know that one plus one equals two can be a limiting disadvantage.

What we know we tend to stick to, to defend and not think beyond.

When we untie from these pre-ordained knowledge chains, we are free to think anew and solve “unsolvable” problems.

How utterly delightful and tantalizingly appetizing!

Over the years, before fears and seared vegan steaks, we all gathered at the weekend and drove for hours until we got….somewhere.

The place we arrived at was always fascinating and memorable, for the simple reason, We Were There.

As they crossed the road applause broke out and enthusiastic cheering, it continues to this day.

We have no idea why. People seemed happy, and bars gave free drinks to all comers.

The Day of the Rooster as it became known, and by others Fixation Day, it is happening again this year – next Thursday.

Although it’s not easy to get a booking at a hotel in the centre of all the festivities, it’s so worthwhile and such a joy to be there, and after the free bar generosities you can’t drive, so walking or a bed nearby are best.

Such great advice is given freely with the wish that you feel every bit as good as we do, every year on this special day.

The Stream had a trickle of water, and the conversation flowed freely with the occasional exciting rapids of passionate enthusiasm, disagreement, or binding agreement.

Several layers looked like strata from mad geology.

Top hats and printed tablecloths were not obligatory; they were displayed with exuberant delight at the passing of the totalitarians.

A rustling leaf and long shared table with wine and home-baked bread style of liberty wafted from every space.
