Swift and sure in the mist by the shore.

I knew the path.

It touched the sand-licking waves at the edge of the rocks, but never faltered by sharing the sea-level altitude.

An old empty house had a stone terrace at the same level.

Being by the sea had never been so true.

We are known by the breeze.

Somewhere, there’s a place for coffee.

There was always the down-the-street cafe.

Then came Upperbucks which popularized bad coffee for the gullible.

In the end, whenever that was, Giorgio’s Cafe Sublime was a place that lived up to its name.

It made no claim to have imitated (that badly!?) the average Italian cafe in Italy.

Start and stop, it seemed slow but the view was opening up.

Edging forward, creeping, crawling, and other descriptions of sleep-inducing progress were most appropriate.

When you travel in a 1951 Bentley there are allowances to be made. There were a few even in 1951.

A glimpse, oft repeated, of sparkling brighter-than-true blue water seen between oleander and pine trees made it all seem worthwhile.

The sea was a small one in planetary terms, but large enough to us even though an island was visible less than a mile away.

We yearn for such moments. Again please!

The day dawned with a stable coin, a stable and a saddle.

The jockey, an experienced Wall Street official Manipulator, knew the score and the whole story.

Driving faster than could ever be wise, along the winding tree-and-hedge-lined road, our jockey succeeded in winning by arriving at the stables to deliver the newly minted saddle.

As he stepped out of the gleaming over-polished Maserati he flipped a coin in the air, letting it land heads up in a pile of recently produced horse manure.

The next chapter reveals more.
And, doesn’t it always?!

Bunches of hunches.

It all started with a seed.

We had no idea it fell out of the bag.

Years later a field of flowers had become a tourist attraction.

A cafe set up across the road, filled all year long with the delighted visitors.

A richer carpet of the most brilliantly colorful flowers, had never been seen.
